Jake Kumerow Might Be Heading for a Redshirt Year

Packers Training Camp star Jake Kumerow made the roster, despite, hurting his shoulder in Week 2. Kumerow called the injury a ‘stinger’, and the reports were he could be back with the team by Week 3. Packers need the roster space, and instead of cutting the former UW-Whitewater receiver, they put him on the Injured Reserve. Kumerow could be back in Week 9, but there’s no guarantee that will happen for Green Bay.
Only one player can come back from Injured Reserve for each team. If the Packers remain relatively healthy this season, Kumerow could be that guy to come off and give the team a needed boost in the second half. But if Green Bay has some of the injury woes they’ve had in the past, Kumerow could be looking on the outside. Even though he’s gained popularity in the base, there could be a better player or two thater ends up as the one needed to come back in Week 9. Let’s hope for the former situation.
Would Kumerow sit out a year to stay with the team or asked for a settlement for his release. Kumerow turned enough heads this preseason that he can probably find work pretty quickly. Packers need to be careful not to jerk him around as I do think there is some leverage from Kumerow’s side of the table. The best quarterback in football, Aaron Rodgers, praised him, and that endorsement would go a long way in NFL circles if Kumerow was a free agent again.
Packers’ wide receiver problem solved itself with Kumerow being on Injured Reserve. The team now has seven receivers which is usually the maximum for an NFL team. We’ll see what move the Packers make when Aaron Jones returns to the team in two weeks.
