Jimmy Kimmel Did A Marvelous Job With Oscars

In 2012, I called for The Academy Awards to make a change and go with Jimmy Kimmel as the host. It took a few years, but ABC finally listened to me. Kimmel did a wonderful job blending in things from his late night show like Matt Damon gag to just having fun with the whole event. Kimmel made jokes at some of the lesser awards and acted like himself. Kimmel should go on a run like Johnny Carson did and host for the next few years because I’m not sure if there’s anyone else worth being the host.
People wondered how political would things get with Kimmel. He isn’t at the level of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver or Seth Meyers, who are taking full advantage of Donald Trump hate audience, and it showed for the most part. The jabs were subtle like the one about Sweden along with a few others. I liked the message about people coming together to have a conversation because that’s been missing in society. Kimmel never went all-in on Trump as people probably wanted him to, and I’m sure the backlash kings/queens of the Internet will attack him for it. He played to his strengths and not injecting a shit load of politics is one of them.
Kimmel had his viral moment like Ellen did with the selfie except his was much better and less forced. We’ll know all about ‘Gary From Chicago’ today when he gets his 15 minutes of fame. The tour thing could have went terribly bad, and instead, it was awesome to see people meet ‘stars’ out of the blue. All of the stars had fun with it too especially Ryan Gosling and Denzel Washington. The late night host gave off the vibe that everyone shouldn’t take themselves too seriously, and the actors got the hint for the most part.
Who knows what the takes will be when it comes to Kimmel’s hosting. We’re so cynical that everyone will probably hate it. To me, he did well and deserves another shot especially with how it all ended.
Charlie.
