Jordy Nelson Retiring As a Packers Gives Us All The Feels
Jordy Nelson is one of, if not, the most popular Packers player not named Aaron Rodgers in the last decade. He is beloved by people all over the state. People are very fond of him. Why? Well, he is a stand-up family man who works on a farm. That sounds like a lot of people in Wisconsin. People tend to relate to people that similar to you. He just happens to be really good at football. There are some jokes you can make here, and I’ll let you have them because we’re all thinking about it. Jordy is a Packer for life, and he will get treated like one with a one-day ceremony in August.
Just now on our 4 p.m. show on @wibw: K-State great and former #Packers star Jordy Nelson tells our @Melissa_Brunner that he plans on going back to Green Bay at some point in August to sign a one-day contract and retire as a Packer. pic.twitter.com/n4y0hLrOQ0

I’m glad that Nelson and the Packers did not have a chilly period with each other. In my minor interactions with Jordy, he doesn’t seem like a guy to hold a grudge, but you never know with people. I’m glad that he did not see their breakup as a ‘fuck you’, rather, a business decision to move on from a veteran receiver. It is still an unpopular move for fans, and some think he could still play yet Nelson hung it up at the right time. He was cooked a couple of years ago, even if he still could be a red zone monster.
Pardon My Take, a famed sports podcast made the point how these guys who do the one-day retirements should get to ball out in their final day as a Packer. You know that Nelson will hit the field for a little bit and do the iconic spin celebration with Aaron Rodgers. That’s 1000 percent happening. It would be cooler if Nelson retired on a preseason gameday, and a part of me wonders if the Packers brass will try to get him to do that. Now, Nelson is not a flashy guy, so, he might not want the attention, but it would put asses in the seats for preseason football.
Good on ya, Jordy.
Charlie.
