Junior Guerra’s DL Stint Puts Brewers Pitching In A Bind

Man, you couldn’t help but think the worst at Miller Park when Junior Guerra hobbled off the field after a bunt. Shades of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright popping his Achilles doing the same thing at this very stadium. Guerra did not return and reported to have a calf strain. That’s in fact what is and Milwaukee will put him on the 10-day Disabled List meaning he can return on April 14th which is the start of the series against Cincinnati Reds if this isn’t too serious. Still, it sets Milwaukee’s already bad starting pitching behind.
Tommy Milone took the place of Guerra, and he was trash for the greater part. Milone suffered two early runs that put Milwaukee is a bigger deficit in this game. Milone hasn’t showed that he’s a good starter in baseball. There are no numbers that support he can be a reliable guy for this team. It’s amazing that we’re one game into the regular season, and Brewers already have to use Chase Anderson and Milone as starters who were thought to be long relievers.
With the level of competition Milwaukee faces in the coming series – Chicago then Toronto, it might be a rocky start for this team. If Guerra misses any more time, Milwaukee might be looking at another April that ends up slow out of the gates.
