Justin Thomas is having himself one of the better years on the PGA Tour. He did not need a major championship to cap off a solid season, but he did that on Sunday with a nine under sparkling performance at Quail Hollow. Even though he had two wins this season, the causal public looked at him as ‘Jordan Spieth’s best buddy’ or ‘Rickie Fowler’s close friend.’ That said, he deserves a ton more respect than that. He’s one of the best golfers in the game right now, and he has a major to his name at the young age of 24.

After a Sunday at U.S. Open where Thomas fell apart after delivering a 61 on Saturday, the Alabama graduate learned a lesson. He played with great poise on Sunday trailing Kevin Kisner by a couple of strokes heading into his final round. It looked similar to the U.S. Open with two bogeys in the first three holes. But he bounced back nicely with steady play before his first birdie on seven then when his putt dropped after standing on the lip for 10 seconds for birdie on the 10th, it looked like it might be his day. He made memorable moments with his chip-in on 13th, and his tee shot on 17 to seal the tournament.

The new generation of golfers continues their mark on the game with Thomas being the third straight major winner under the age of 30. It’s the first time since the 19 fucking 20’s since two under 25-year-old golfers won major tournaments. It’s absurd to see where the game of golf at this point. The fact Patrick Reed didn’t have a top 10 in a major until Sunday is a bit absurd. There are going to be many first-time major winners throughout the next several years, and a couple will become the Phil Mickelson’s of this generation. Hopefully, none of them will be a Colin Montgomrie though.

Golf finished off a great four majors, and they now head into the playoffs in a couple weeks. It should be a fun finish to the season.
