As the Milwaukee Brewers finished up their second straight win versus San Francisco, they made their second move of the trade deadline. Brewers acquired Mike Moustakas from the Kansas City Royals for Brett Phillips and Jorge Lopez. A deal that people rumored about for a couple weeks actually happened for Milwaukee. Even though Travis Shaw plays the same position and profiles as a similar player, Brewers are bringing in Moustakas. They add another huge left-handed bat to their lineup.

Brewers desperately needed to lengthen their lineup. Milwaukee did not have much after fifth spot on most nights and on some night their order would end after the four spot. Moustakas gives the team a much better lineup from top to bottom in the order. They know have six legitimate power hitters in their order with four of them being left-handed. In Miller Park, that’s a valuable asset. It’s much easier for left-handers to send it deep and out of the ballpark. Moustakas gets a major home park upgrade. This could be an awesome two months.

There are concerns about Travis Shaw playing second base. I get it. He’s a big ass dude playing at the position with being 6’4 230. You usually do not see a second baseman at that size. Someone brought up D.J. Lemahieu is a fantastic second baseman who is nearly that size, therefore, there’s hope that maybe Shaw could be alright at there. Still, he’s never played second base during his entire baseball career. It’s going to take some time and a lot of practice. The Mayor is a very hard worker and believe that he can do this for the Brewers.

Royals bring in Phillips and Lopez who are going to contribute to Kansas City’s major league team right away. The national media called it a ‘big haul’ which is pretty weird to me. Phillips is blocked by all of the other Brewers outfielders. He has an amazing arm but never been able to hit in the majors. Lopez looked solid in the bullpen this year but never got a real chance to start. My guess is he will get that chance in Kansas City.
