Lions Could Throw a Wrench in Packers Draft Plans
Green Bay Packers should see the Detroit Lions as one of the bigger wild cards int he NFL Draft. Packers and Lions being lumped together in the draft is something that doesn’t happen very often. Even with the Lions’ victory against Packers in the final game of the year, they’re picking eight in the the 2019 NFL Draft whilst the Packers will be picking 12th. News came out yesterday that the Lions would prefer to trade down in the first round. Here’s what Lions General Manager Bob Quinn said on a podcast with Ian Rapoport.
“I always like draft picks, so if we could move back a little bit, a couple spots, and pick up another pick, I think this is a really good, the depth of this draft from the late first to the third, there’s a lot of really good players in there,” Quinn said on Ian Rapoport’s podcast, via Justin Rogers of the Detroit News. “If I could ever move back a few spots, get a really good player in the first round and add another pick, I think that’s something that would be great. People out there listening, I’m open for business.”
Everyone has a different interpretation of the word ‘Couple’. Fore me, that is two or three spots. Quinn would not mind moving down, but not to the point where the Packers pick before Detroit does in the draft. Part of me thinks this could be the Lions desire to draft T.J. Hockenson from Iowa, and they do not want to draft him in the Top 10 after all of the shit they got about Eric Ebron years ago (Note: VERY different players, same position). Detroit also knows that teams like Miami and Washington could want to move up to get a quarterback, but again, that would put the Lions drafting after the Packers. I’m unsure if Quinn and company want that from their team.
There is not a snowball’s chance in hell that the Packers could move up in the draft to the Lions spot at eight. Part of me thinks they would love to do it considering the unpredictable nature of the defensive players available at 12. Brian Gutekunst might make the call, but it will probably get laughed off.
