Malik Zaire to Wisconsin? Maybe

News came in the last couple days that former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire will be a grad transfer and available to play in the 2017 season. The short list included Pitt, Michigan State, Florida and Wisconsin. The last team is a little bit surprising if you think about a few things with the upcoming Wisconsin season.
Wisconsin doesn’t have many scholarships to give out as most of their team comes back next year. Badgers are going to be a preseason top 10 team regardless of Zaire coming to Madison. They have a quarterback in Alex Hornibrook, who has some experience, ready to roll for next year and impressive freshman Jack Coan coming in next season as well. Maybe, this is a Russell Wilson situation for Wisconsin. Remember that team was LOADED, but before Wilson, people weren’t convinced they could do it without a quarterback. Once Wilson got there, Badgers were an immediate contender. In case you forgot, Wisconsin’s head coach Paul Chryst led the offense. Who knows, maybe Chryst isn’t convinced that Hornibrook is that guy to lead a team to the College Football Playoff.
It’s clear Badgers aren’t done at quarterback, despite their lack of scholarships. They checked in with four-star LSU recruit Myles Brennen who didn’t de-commit but announced he would look around at other schools. He’s crazy talented, and maybe we’re learning Chryst’s philosophy that you can’t have an enough quarterbacks on the roster.
