Marquette Adding Ed Morrow Is An Interesting Move
Out of the blue on Wednesday night, Marquette Golden Eagles added to their roster by getting Ed Morrow from Nebraska Cornhusker as a transfer. Morrow will sit out the 2017-2018 season then he will play two seasons for the Golden Eagles. He battled injuries during his time with Nebraska missing most of the Big Ten season with a foot injury and had some issues in his first as well. This leaves the door barely open for any 2018 recruits as Marquette has one scholarship left.
What Morrow brings to Marquette is rebounding and defense. They need both things in the future of their team. Morrow also added some good size at 6’7 234 pounds will make him a force down low. He had some nice scoring nights when with Huskers last season, but the big story was he pulled down rebounds like a mad man. He averaged 7.4 which is the highest for Nebraska player since Alexs Maric pulled down 10.7 during the 2007-2008. The Chicago native will give Marquette a rebounding edge they haven’t had in awhile. All of the sudden, Golden Eagles have a bunch of 6’7 or taller guys on their team.
The plot twist of this move is it gives Marquette only one scholarship for the 2018 season. There are many names that Marquette is looking at right now, most notably Joey Hauser. I don’t think the younger Hauser is a lock by any means to be a Golden Eagle. That’s okay. Further, there’s no guarantee a player leaves the team and opens the door for another scholarship next season. Marquette isn’t running out of scholarships, rather trying to find players that fit.
