Marquette Adds SMU Transfer Harry Froling

We didn’t recap Marquette-Villanova for reasons unknown, but there would have been some frustration there. Golden Eagles are 1-2 in conference, but Steve Wojciechowski keeps recruiting top tier talent to Marquette. The latest is SMU transfer and Australian native Harry Froling who Golden Eagles closed on the last couple of weeks. He’s a 6’11 big man who adds a ton of size to a Marquette team that’s going to lack in it or be very young. The roster Wojo is building for the future is a good one.
It’s hard not to look at Froling’s frame and skillset and not come away impressed. He’s 6’11 and 260 pounds. If you do a little reading on him, Froling is a jack of all trades in the post. He feels very comfortable with his back to the basket and knows how to attack the paint. Froling will likely draw some comparisons to Luke Fischer, but my guess is the Aussie will be stronger than him in his early career. The biggest criticism on Froling is his weight and sometimes lack of hustle. No wonder the big boy wanted to to come Milwaukee (Jokes). It’s great that he’ll have a year to condition himself and work to a weight that’s needed. Also, he’s a valuable scout team player for Fischer to face on a nightly basis.
There will be a lot of heat on Wojo if Marquette loses tonight to Seton Hall. Some might be just, other parts of it probably now. The fanbase wants to cheer a winner so badly, and it’s apparent that Marquette is trying to build one. They’ve added all their young guard and wing talent then worked on their size inside and Froling is one of the finishing touches.
