Marquette Fans Shockingly Have No Problems With Iggy The Eagle Mascot

Marquette Golden Eagles decided to name their mascot yesterday. Why? I’m not sure. I’m sure their agency or the communications team thought it would be nice to put a name for the mascot. The choice was ‘Iggy’, after St. Ignatius, the father of prayer. Iggy The Golden Eagle has a great ring to it. When anything involving a mascot happens, people tend to rage out about it without realizing that adding a mascot or adding a mascot’s name is not for fucking them, it’s for the kids. Most Marquette fans took the Iggy The Eagle mascot name in stride and got down with it.

Am I a big mascot guy? Not really. I like them. But they don’t get me out of bed. The big story as always with Iggy is it wears pants, unlike Bucky. That’s important our mascots wear pants unlike Bucky and Clark The Cub. Marquette Athletics can do a big marketing push with Iggy similar to what Wisconsin has done for years with Bucky. It will likely name a few years for Iggy to start sticking but kids will love that they can put a name to a face… or should I say bird?
Should it have number 77? Well, that is some debate. Marquette was the Warriors then when they won their national championship, so technically shouldn’t Iggy have ’03’ or ‘3″ celebrating the 2003 Final Four team and Dwyane Wade? They will never change that as 77 is very important in the history of Marquette, but it’s not a part of the Golden Eagles heritage if we’re getting technical.
