Marquette Had The Highlight Of Their Season In Their Villanova Win

Marquette Golden Eagles swept Villanova late last night. It is hard to believe that actually happened but it did. Marquette is only the third-team in the modern Big East to accomplish such a thing. It is a crazy accomplishment. The last time it happened was five years ago when Butler did it. The moment of the season that will be making the YouTube recap video (Sidenote: No one is making DVDs any more which is sad so the term ‘end of the year DVD’ or championship DVD’ is kinda dead) is the play with Darryl Morsell blocking a shot at one end then Justin Lewis draining a transition three.

Not only is it an awesome play by both Morsell and Lewis, but it also sums up why Marquette won this game in the first place. Morsell and Lewis (Add in Tyler Kolek too) played great. Morsell took over in the second half in a way that I haven’t seen in a long time on a college basketball court for a team I root for. Sure, Markus Howard could get red hot and make a bunch of threes. We saw that. But there is something different about a guy imposing his will exposing bad matchups and taking it right to the paint. Lewis continues his trajectory of being a top dude in the Big East. He and Collin Gillespie are probably the two top Big East Player of the Year candidates, and Lewis made his case loud and clear.
Marquette gets almost a week off before heading on the road again to take on UConn.
