Marquette Takes Down Number One Villanova

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS. What a game from Marquette Golden Eagles. We’ll do the hoopcap for the morning, but somewhat instant reaction was needed in this one. My girlfriend and I watched the game and told her with Marquette down 13 with six minutes left ‘Okay, they have two minutes to make this game or it’s over.’ Sure enough, Golden Eagles got hot at the right time and rode it all the way to the buzzer stunning Villanova, the best team in the country. It’s Marquette’s first win over a top-ranked opponent since Kentucky in 2003, and it’s the first time since 2002-2003 that Marquette beat top 10 teams in back-to-back games.
“The greatest regular season win in Marquette history”

It’s really one of those ‘holy shit’ moments because you have no idea it happened like Will Ferrell in Old School during the debate ‘What happened, I just blacked out.’ That’s how it felt. All of the sudden Villanova couldn’t crack a 1-3-1 zone. All of the sudden Katin Reinhardt extinguished his haters one by one. All of the sudden, Duane Wilson looked like a top 100 recruit. The team found a way to find in possibly the guttiest fashion, and it’s one of the best wins in regular season history for Marquette. Now, I’ll move into the best category if this season continues to trend positively. But even if it doesn’t, we’ll still have this memory. Hard to forget where you were for this one.
We are Marquette and Golden Eagles are back in a major way.
Charlie.
