Mike Holmgren is one of the best coaches of my lifetime. I grew up with knowing the man with a walrus-like mustache coaching my favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. Holmgren had a great tenure with the Green Bay Packers then a great second career with the Seattle Seahawks. Both situations had Holmgren taking over a hapless franchise at that time and making them into Super Bowl teams. There is no reason that Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cowher should have gotten into the Hall of Fame over the former Packers and Seahawks coach. Former NFL lineman and podcaster Joe Thomas laid out his case for Holmgren.

Before Holmgreen came to Green Bay, they made the playoffs twice since 1968. During his time, he only missed the playoffs one year, his first one and won nine or more games every year. When the Bill Walsh product got to Seattle, he made the playoffs the first year in 1999 after a 10-year hiatus. They were a nothing franchise before he got there, and you could argue that he sparked their whole franchise becoming one of the top teams in all of professional football.

Let’s hope that next year is his year for being part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This could be an awesome Hall of Fame year for the Packers. Charles Woodson is likely going in the Hall then there is a chance LeRoy Butler and Holmgren could join him.
