Is Milwaukee the Top Destination for Jake Arrieta?

After Yu Darvish signed with the Cubs, all eyes turned to Jake Arrieta, and where he might end playing next season. Rumors came out from FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman that the former Cy Young winner received a call from Chicago’s general manager Theo Epstein offering him a six-year deal before they finished off the deal with Darvish. Theo is a good guy, but that’s the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard. There’s no way Epstein did that, but it’s a nice Mickey Mouse thought. What’s more interesting from Heyman is he believes the Brewers are the most logical team for him.
You might ask yourself what’s significant about a columnist picking the Brewers as a destination spot? Well, Heyman is tied to the hip with Scott Boras’ clients. And if you’re curious, Arrieta is a Boras’ guy. For years, people made the claim that Heyman tends to give preference to Arrieta clients. Basically, what Heyman writes is what I said on the podcast yesterday and in writing, the former Cub adds a big element to the rotation, and if you can get him on a high cost, low year deal, do it today before anyone gets any bright ideas.
While I don’t think it’s splitting hairs with what pitcher do you want the Brewers to sign, it is a total crapshoot. Sadly for them is if they guess wrong on Arrieta, Lance Lynn or Alex Cobb, people are going to hail down unfair criticism of David Stearns because they’ll argue he chose the wrong guy. Honestly, I’m sure Milwaukee ranked their favorites and going from there. Just because they love a guy in the rotation, there are other elements he has to fit in for. That’s such flawed logic, but that’s how fans work these days. Every move has to be right, or you’re a fucking idiot.
We’ll see who wins the Arrieta sweepstakes.
Charlie.
