Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks were supposed to be playing on the same day for the first time since last April. That did not happen on Friday afternoon. Milwaukee Brewers’ game was canceled due to COVID-19 positive tests. Cardinals had two players tested positive. But if players all tested negative on Friday, they could play on Saturday then a doubleheader on Sunday. Again, that didn’t happen. The game today is not happening and the games tomorrow aren’t happening. Baseball is suddenly in jeopardy. Here’s what I think should happen in the next few days to save baseball.

Teams should play out the weekend series. Once that happens, all the players will be sent to their respective home parks to be tested regularly. They’ll likely find out that teams get back down to complete negatives as they did right before the season started. How do things get fixed, so, this doesn’t happen again? Well, the schedule is going to have to completely change and dugout rules are also going to have to change. The ignorance of baseball will be a huge blame game. Both players and owners are responsible for this being a complete and utter shitshow.

The schedule should start to take shape in the form of a local weekly bubble. For example, Brewers-Cardinals are supposed to play 10 games. They will play five games against each other at the same location. Then there will play the other five at another location later in the year. The three-game series against teams like Cleveland or Kansas City should be reconsidered or extend one of those series to five games. These series could happen from Wednesday to Sunday with days off on Monday and Tuesday to get players’ time to test and reset.

As for the dugouts, there needs to be increased mask usage and more social distancing. What the Los Angeles Dodgers announced yesterday is exactly what should have been in place from the start. Players have a 113-page manual that is being completely ignored. They need to utilize the entire empty stadium instead of just using the clubhouse. The lack of masks is stunning too. Due to the labor strife, my assumption is the owners did not want to step in and say anything due to all the issues they’ve had this summer.

Rob Manfred should be voted out. Tony Clark should be voted out. Baseball should start completely over after this season. This is a fundamental disaster that could have been taken care of if they weren’t fighting about money. What a fucking shame.
