MubbCap: Marquette Doesn’t Learn From Previous Lessons

Marquette Golden Eagles lost their sixth game in the last seven. A game that I called ‘The most important in Steve Wojciechowski’s tenure’ led to Marquette being down 19 at halftime. It led to the same Marquette starting lineup getting their doors blown off to start the game as they have in multiple games this Big East season. Steve Wojciechowski fails to learn lessons on the basketball court. Why? It is unclear, although, it seems to be a dangerous combination of stubbornness and ignorance wrapped into one person. Marquette did figure it out in the second half and make it more of a game with some unique and fun lineups. After the game, Wojo called it ‘playing desperate’ again proving he is wonderfully ignorant.
Player of the Game: Markus Howard – Yes, he deserves it almost every game. And this one is no different. Howard had 30 points, he made six threes and did what he could to put Marquette back into this one late. Howard carried this team in the last few weeks. It is too bad that his teammates did not pick up the slack for him. Maybe, he will get his glory for a Big East title run or move to the second weekend of the tournament. But I highly doubt that. Sadly, he didn’t get more help.
Honorable Mention: Greg Elliott – You could give it to a host of guys, but Greg Elliott is a spark plug. He played a large role in bringing Marquette back early in the first half then again in the second half. He played the most minutes since playing 31 against Jacksonville. Elliott is a deserving starter on this basketball team moving forward. As Ben Steele notes, he gets shit done no matter.
What to look for: Marquette’s new starting lineup – If Steve Wojciechowski trots out the same lineup on Thursday, I hope he also takes a massive shit in the Marquette cheering section with middle fingers in the air. The lineup MUST change on Thursday. It is no longer hope, it is a must. Let’s all hope and pray that Wojo isn’t that dumb and there is a new lineup. With Seton Hall’s size, it will likely be Jayce Johnson for Theo John, Greg Elliott for Koby McEwen and Jamal Cain for Brendan Bailey. McEwen might get the nod due to Hall’s size, but I hope that’s not the case.
Next up: As mentioned, they will play the crybabies from Seton Hall. If you missed it, Hall cried about how Creighton cut down the nets in front of them. What a bunch of whiners. Marquette has been overmatched by Seton Hall both times they played. It will take a near-perfect game and some different things for MU to pull off the upset.
