No, Chip Kelly Shouldn’t Be Alabama’s OC

The news of the day was Atlanta Falcons announced they are hiring Steve Sarkasian to replace Kyle Shanahan who took the San Francisco 49ers gig. Sarkasian had employment with Alabama Crimson Tide to be their new offensive coordinator, but Sark bounced to take an NFL gig. This means Nick Saban is out of an offensive coordinator again. Which means Chip Kelly’s name surfaced for the job, and there’s no way in God’s green earth should he take this job.
Everyone wants to Kelly to jump on a new job. He’s the Jon Gruden for the next generation. But in reality, this is a bad fit for him from a relationship perspective. Could you see Kelly getting yelled at by Saban? I sure as hell cannot. He doesn’t seem like the mild mannered guy that can put up with Saban’s shit. But at this point, the Tide head coach could be desperate and do whatever it takes to make Kelly the offensive coordinator given it’s deep in the college football offseason already. We’ll wait and see.
Kelly will have a copious amounts of openings potentially that could be fit the bill for him to slide in and be the next head coach. UCLA, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Texas A&M could all be spots that could open up, and Kelly would fit in. My only pivot to Chip taking this job is if he wants to be a head coach in the SEC and wants to learn how Saban does it for a year before jumping ship to one of the available jobs next season. If that’s not the case, Chip should just chill for a year and hang out until the next opportunity.
Charlie.
