Packers Bring Back Nick Perry At Right Price

Green Bay Packers made one move on the first day of free agency. That move was re-signing Nick Perry to a five-year deal worth 60 million dollars. Green Bay is taking a risk that Perry plays like he did for the last year and the playoffs. He recorded 19 sacks in the last 15 games. Perry is great against the run, so why are Packers fans hesitant to call this a great deal for Packers? A part of me wonders if Ted Thompson can ever win with the general public.
We heard people mad at Thompson for not signing Micah Hyde or J.C. Tretter then when Thompson gives out money, it’s ‘too much money.’ Packers fans expect these fucking players to come back on the veteran minimum. Thompson had to pay Perry at this price and bring him back. The market was dunezo. All of the edge rushers went by the wayside. People are wondering today about the offensive line and secondary. Imagine the worry without a true pass rush with a very young front seven. It would have been an all-out panic. Also, this contract isn’t that bad.
Perry is basically getting paid for the first two seasons. If he doesn’t perform, Green Bay can easily cut him before the real move moves in the final three seasons. This is the Thompson way of doing things. People fail to read the fine print with these deals and just look at the number. The price here isn’t that bad.
I said before free agency started that Packers would bring back three players. This is one, and let’s see if there will be others.
