Should Packers Entertain Kaepernick or Romo?

Let’s get the question out of the way now. It’s a question that needs to be asked because everyone will have the same question. Green Bay Packers and the available quarterbacks in the National Football League. The first two people will point to are Colin Kaepernick and Tony Romo. People are already filling up their columns with thoughts on Packers bringing either player in despite it not being the norm of this football team. Peter King made a case for Kaepernick. Mike Freeman made his for Romo. So the question is do either make sense or is a trade more likely?
The case for Kaepernick
Let’s take the politics out of it. I’m not trying to ‘stick to sports’ or any of that cliche bullshit, but I want to look at the football player himself. Packers really haven’t had a mobile quarterback in Mike McCarthy’s system. There are some spread elements to what the team does at this time, but there would be a learning curve for both parties. These receivers would be the best that Kaepernick had in his career though which may help things.
The case for Romo
Even though he’s done a great job in the CBS booth, you know he wants one more chance at winning a Super Bowl. If his back will hold up, Romo could hold the water for Rodgers as much as possible. We’ve seen on the broadcasts that he’s sharp as a tack with 2017 schemes. I don’t know if the Packers could do as much on the move as they do now, but Romo would give this team a great chance if he was at full health and could still sling it.
A trade for an NFL Quarterback
In two weeks, there’s a trade deadline in the National Football League. It’s October 31st, but if Green Bay were to make a trade, it would happen next week if Brett Hundley struggles. Could they talk to New York Giants about an Eli Manning deal even though Giants looked good on Sunday? Same with Los Angeles and Philip Rivers? There may be a few quarterbacks that are in-market right now that Green Bay might look for a deal even with no-trade clauses.
Hope all the Packers fans are ready for the craziness that this week will bring.
Charlie.
