Packers Fans’ Rooting Guide to NFC Playoffs
Since Green Bay did not play the playoffs, here we are with a rooting guide. I’d love not to write this next year. I’d love to do a power ranking of teams I want to see the Packers to play off a bye when they have homefield at Lambeau Field next season. Hopefully, we aren’t writing this thing. This blog post would have been easier if Minnesota made the playoffs, but they did not, so, we have a clear-cut ‘No Chance in Hell’ team, although, there are a lot of hateable teams in here for Packers fans. Let’s start with the NFC, and we’ll look at the AFC later today.
Get on the Bandwagon
Los Angeles Rams – Sure, their owner stole this team from St. Louis, but how can you not pull for the Rams. They were my team last year, and we’re riding again for the same reasons. Seeing Sean McVay in a big game like the Super Bowl would be awesome. I worry about their defense, but I feel like there is a major ‘Jared Goff revenge’ narrative that might built in the playoffs. Goff can get his revenge against Chicago and New Orleans as two teams who beat him. I also think that plays to McVay’s advantage.
I’ll get on the wagon if I have to
New Orleans Saints – Here’s the thing about the Saints. I love a few things about them – Their fans, the dome, the all black jerseys, Alvin Kamara, Mike Thomas but the thing I love the most is the idea they play the Super Bowl in Atlanta. New Orleans and Atlanta fanbases hate each other. Saints fans invading Atlanta would be a fucking dream, and one I hope the Packers can do to Minneapolis. The things that bother me about the Saints are people acting like Drew Brees is some underdog and his ‘too nice’approach gives me Peyton Manning vibes plus I go in and out if I like Sean Payton.
Sequels are usually not fun but let’s get nuts
Philadelphia Eagles – Here’s the thing, I don’t want the Eagles to repeat. Philly fans were obnoxious the last time around. They were fun, I liked the dog masks, I loved them pantsing the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship and Big Dick Nick Foles story was fun. Now, they’re even more underdogs, Foles is still around causing people to wonder if they should switch their Foles to Wentz allegiance. I’d be fine with a full Eagles repeat honestly including a rematch of Philadelphia-New England in the Super Bowl. NFL doesn’t want that, but trust me, there are enough storylines there to do a round two.
Insert Van Wilder gif… ‘But why’
Dallas Cowboys – Even though Aaron Rodgers owns the Dallas Cowboys, this is still a rival for Green Bay. They’re not a team to cheer for in the playoffs. Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper connection has been fun. Zeke is still an asshole. I love their young linebackers, and their pass rush is mean yet they’re nothing about the Cowboys that makes me too happy. Nothing better than seeing Jerry Jones pissed off to all hell, and Skip Bayless bitching about the Cowboys.
Seattle Seahawks – Again, this is another rival of the Packers that made the dance. For me, I’d rather see Dallas than Seattle in Round two. Seattle caused me more recent pain as a Packers fan. They can burn in round one, and they’re just a good story of 2018. Some cheer for Seattle because of Russell Wilson’s year as a Wisconsin Badgers quarterback. While Wilson had a great year there, he’s a fucking weenie.
No Chance in Hell
Chicago Bears – This is an obvious answer. Bears being good again is not fun. What’s nice about the Bears usually is they struggle after one year of success. They’re haven’t had back-to-back winning seasons since 2005 and 2006, and before that, they made the playoff two straight years in 1990 and 1991. This is a glimmer of hope. Everyone loves the Bears. They are everyone’s sleeper heading into the playoffs. Nothing would be better than Mitchell Trubisky shitting his fucking pants against Philly on Sunday.
Let’s go, I’m pumped for the playoffs even if the Packers aren’t there.
