Green Bay Packers are getting ready to play their first game of the season, and their offensive line depth is a question mark. Billy Turner won the right tackle competition over Ricky Wagner, and Lane Taylor regains his starting spot at right guard. But Turner might not be able to play on Sunday due to a knee injury, therefore, Green Bay might need to get creative with their offensive line. People assumed this meant that Jared Veldheer would get a phone call and away we go yet that didn’t happen. In fact, Green Bay explored the idea of a veteran backup center instead with Justin Britt who visited the Packers yesterday.

This is not a bad idea by the Packers. Britt started the last four years for the Seattle Seahawks. He is an average player and that’s alright to have on your bench. Green Bay would have a bonafide backup center versus trying to have Lucas Patrick, Lane Taylor, or others try to play the center position. Not to mention, Packers starting center Corey Linsley is a free agent next year, and if he walks, Britt would be a nice turnkey opinion.

Some might wonder why the Packers are looking inside instead of outside. The answer is somewhat simple. Egleton Jenkins is a tackle if Green Bay needs him to be. Head coach Matt LaFleur said one of the options for this week is putting Jenkins at right tackle with Lucas Patrick likely playing left guard. Vikings are weak in the middle, so, Jenkins playing outside will help the team out. He is a complete stud and we should all have full confidence in his ability to be successful at tackle. Patrick is a better option than anything else the Packers could roll with at right tackle. Ricky Wagner is also practicing so he’s an option too.

If Wagner is healthy, Veldheer is off the table anyway. Britt makes more sense to ensure that the center position has a little more than depth than it currently does.
