Packers Should Make a Move on Bruce Irvin

News came out this afternoon that the Oakland Raiders are cutting Bruce Irvin. Apparently, Oakland tried to trade Irvin before the deadline, but they could not get it done. This means the former Seahawk and Raider will be put on waivers instead of being a free agent. This complicates things for the Green Bay Packers, but they should still make a claim on Irvin if possible. He’s exactly the type of player that could really help an emerging Packers defense. He did have some maturity issues in the past, but that seems to be long gone as Oakland did have him as a team captain.

Irvin had eight sacks last year and is a competent pass rusher without question. Even with a down year, he would be a huge boost to the Packers pass rushing crew. Green Bay sniffed around for a pass rusher during the trade deadline period as reports came out they were interested in Dante Fowler who ended up going to Los Angeles. I’m puzzled why Packers general manager didn’t go after him if the reports were that Oakland tried to trade him before the deadline. Maybe that’s a sign he will not be claimed by Green Bay.
Packers are in the middle of the waiver wire mix with a 3-3-1 record. If you want one bright spot if Green Bay does lose to New England on Sunday, they’re in a better waiver position. Interested to see Gutekunst gets a chance at Irvin.
