Packers Trial By Fire: The Kevin King Edition

If you think about it, Green Bay enjoyed having rookie cornerbacks on their roster. Casey Hayward had a dynamic rookie year where he had six interceptions, and people thought he should be considered for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Even though he’s a sieve in 2017, Damarious Randall had a fantastic start to his rookie campaign. Same goes with Quinten Rollins. It’s a trial by fire process that Green Bay has went to over the last few years. This time around it’s Kevin King’s turn as the Packers announced he will receive more playing time.
While there were not many bright spots on the Packers defense on Sunday, King was one of them. Atlanta only threw at him four times, and they did not complete pass. Despite the small number, it felt like King was everywhere on the field. He made his presence known to Atlanta. For the first time in forever, the Packers had a guy who could actually compete with Julio Jones, and that’s a welcoming sight to see. Not surprising that Green Bay wanted to give him more chances on Sunday.
I do thinK King ends up making the starting lineup on Sunday. I’m not sure if they will match him up directly with uber talented wide receiver A.J. Green, but he will likely get some opportunities to face off against the all-pro receiver. My guess is they’ll start with Davon House on Green with King taking on Brandon LaFell. T
There are going to be bumps and bruises along the way, but hopefully, there will be some encouraging signs as well. King can play football, and it’s a great thing he’s figured it out so quickly. He looks ready to enter the trial by fire.
