Football is coming in the next couple of months. Right now, the cases are spiking all over the country leaving a lot of uncertainty for football this Fall. There is next to zero chance there will be a delay in the season, rather, it seems less likely that there will be fans in the stands. Despite what I wrote about yesterday around the NFL trying to figure out how to put people in the stands, it seems apparent that the Packers are ready to have a ‘new normal’ for the 2020 season. These are the right moves, but they do not mean much… yet. Here’s a rundown of what we’re looking at it.

• There will be no ‘Gold Package’ this season.
• Fans will have to wear face coverings in the stands
• Attendance will be significantly limited
• There is a chance for no fans in the stands.

There are a few things to unpack here. Let’s start with face coverings. They make sense if you’re going through the halls of Lambeau, and when you’re going into the stadium. But what about when you’re in the stands? Here’s the thing, how do you drink (Beer, soda, water) with a mask? Straws? What about eating? Usually, if you’re grabbing a bratwurst or nachos at a game, so, you bring down the mask and eat but doesn’t defeat the whole purpose? Will the Packers ushers police mask usage in the stands? There are so many unanswered questions on that front.

How should people get tickets? Well, Packers are going to see who opt-ins or opt-outs from this season. That is the first step. Then the Packers will probably wait until early August to make a decision. How it will probably work is a lottery system similar to what we see with college teams and bowl games. Another idea would be the Packers go by priority in terms of years and give certain people ‘eight games’ then others get ‘seven games’ and so on. Although, it is hard to think some ticket holders will actually get all eight games available to them.

This is merely the beginning and many things are still unanswered.
