If you grew up in the late 90s, early 2000s, you remember Total Request Live pretty vividly. Carson Daly hosted the show. He made it cool to wear nail polish on your thumb and pinky (My cousin once painted my specific nails to look like Carson, not kidding). We saw the rise of boy bands, NuMetal like Limp Bizkit and Korn and other artists have their moments. Whenever I rank something, I think of TRL. We’re ranking the Packers head coaching candidates. These rankings are a blend of my personal thoughts along with the people. Whom the Packers may hire. We might break TRL rules and go outside the top 10 yet we’ll try our best to keep it at 10.

1. Matt LaFleur – This is my guy. I want the Packers to look at LaFleur more than most candidates out there. Think that people will get on board with him when they realize he comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree and is ready to take a team into the future. He might be too fresh for a head coaching job, yet, this would be a great spot for him.

2. Josh McDaniels – If this were my personal list, McDaniels would rank around 8 or 9. He is the popular choice to replace McCarthy. I’m not sure why people want him. He’s a weasel and a snake. Fiery dude that might endear himself to the fanbase, but I’m unsure if Aaron Rodgers will be on board. McDaniels would make more sense with a young quarterback. Take this for it’s worth, Detroit went with Matt Patricia over McDaniels.

3. Lincoln Riley – Again, this is a people’s choice nominee. I love the idea of Lincoln Riley. He’s a new age dude yet I have zero idea why he’d come to Green Bay. He could either be king in Oklahoma or work for Cleveland with your first protege, Baker Mayfield. Riley would much rather work with Baker than Aaron.

4. John Harbaugh – This is where the people and I have an agreement. I like the idea of Harbaugh because he seems to be a players coach with an aggressive mentality. He’s a Special Teams guy, so, that would be improved and likely, he would look to a new-aged offensive coordinator. The question about Harbaugh is will he be available?

5. Vic Fangio – Of the potential NFC North hires, does it go John DeFilippo or Vic Fangio first? My guess is Fangio considering he dominated the Packers offense as a defensive coordinator in San Francisco and somewhat in Chicago. Some Packers fans might see a defensive guy as being the answer against the offensive explosion.

6. John DeFilippo – Vikings offensive coordinator might make some nervous, but he could be the guy as well. Getting insight on what Philly did to win a Super Bowl combined with what Minnesota is doing might prove to be successful for the Green Bay Packers. Fan might be sour on him considering the Vikings are not a powerhouse offensive team.

7. Pete Carmichael – Again, this is a guy who will show up for fans and me personally considering his involvement with the New Orleans Saints. Longtime coach who is quarterback-focused. He didn’t call the plays in New Orleans. Would he want to in Green Bay if hired to be the head coach?

8. Zac Taylor – Here’s a name that fans might not be clued in, but the more, I look at it, the more I can get behind it. He’s the quarterbacks coach for the Rams and gaining some major traction in the coaching circles. We could consider him the mini-me to LaFleur if he decides to go elsewhere or the Packers look the other way. He also is Mike Sherman’s son-in-law which brings some familiarity to Green Bay.

9. James Franklin – Oh boy, this isn’t a popular one for me, but expect some people to connect the dots. Franklin coached for the Packers back in the day, and Green Bay tends to hire within themselves. Would they really take a chance on a guy who only maximized talent when he had the best running back in college football?

10. Pat Fitzgerald – If Mark Murphy is in charge, Fitzgerald will get the call to interview. Murphy tagged Fitzgerald to run Northwestern in 2006, would he doe the same in 2019 for the Packers. Remember, Fitzgerald called RPO’s a ‘Communist movement’, so that doesn’t vibe with the current state of the National Football League.

Missing out on the list where Hue Jackson, Brett Favre and Joe Lombardi. I kid, but seriously, two of those three will be real names people throw out to head coach the Packers. Eric Bieniemy didn’t make my list because I find him more unproven than most. The name will be popular for some people though.
