If Richard Sherman’s Price Drops, Packers Should Listen

Richard Sherman is one of the best corners in football. He’s a ballhawk who finds the football near him at all-time. Sherman led the league in overall interceptions in the span of the last three years. It appears the relationship between Seattle Seahawks and him is coming to a close. The team has been very open about the desire to trade the former 5th round pick from Stanford and move on from him. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted yesterday that there’s a chance this could happen with Seahwawks asking too much. If this happens, Packers should express some interest.
I’m not one to be ‘Ted needs to do this’, and to be truthful, there are a ton of corners in this draft yet no one is Richard Sherman. The juice is worth the squeeze in my opinion. He adds more fire to the defense and gives Packers that much more of an edge on the defensive side of the football. I’ll look past all of the cheap shots he had against Davante Adams and others if he ends up in the Green and Gold. There might be some concerns regarding how he played in a Cover 3 system which really isn’t the Packers, but the bump-and-run nature of Sherman’s style of play fits perfectly with what Dom Capers is trying to out there. Also, the corner blitz would become a wonderful again.
To me, this is a pipe dream. If you were to ask me, ‘what’s more likely Sherman in Green Bay or Adrian Peterson?’ I would say Peterson just due to I doubt Seattle wants to trade him to a quasi-rival who they could see in the playoffs and is definitely seeing later this season. Business is business, but my assumption is they would rather put Sherman in the AFC.
It’s interesting to see these two fall apart so quickly. I’m convinced he’ll be dealt before the NFL Draft.
