Roundball Cow is an old blog post feature that we did on the site years ago. Since I’m a little short on time this week with all of the things happening in sports, we’re going to shorten the Wisconsin and Marquette recaps to one post instead of each getting their separate post. It helps when both teams carry the same result. Both were defeated at home. For Marquette, they lost 73-66 against Georgia as the Bulldogs smothered them defensively then Wisconsin suffered a tough home loss against Ohio State to the tune of 83-58.

Golden Eagles will be upset that they could have won this game if they had a little help from someone not named Markus Howard and Andrew Rowsey. The rest of the team was ice cold with Matt Heldt missing all six shots, Sacar Amin only attempting two and Greg Elliott being the only starter other than Howard with a made basket. That’s not good. Also what’s not good is the hero ball from Rowsey. That shit has to stop at some point. I get he’s a creator, but the problem is he doesn’t look for anyone else. He thinks that he’s 6’5 when really he’s an undersized guard.

The one nice thing I’ll say about Marquette’s performance is they did a good job holding Yante Maten in check with only 13 points. If you were to tell me that Maten had 13 points, I probably think Marquette comes away victorious.

Next up – They have a must-win game against Vermont on Tuesday night. Catamounts are a good mid-major program, and it could really help the Golden Eagles’ resume.

Ohio State 83 Wisconsin 58
I wonder if the Badger basketball team is thanking the football team for losing so the attention is focused less on them at the moment? It’s really bad out there for Wisconsin. Ohio State railroaded Wisconsin at home as they could not miss in this game. Buckeyes shot 60 percent from the field and over 50 percent from three. My guess is this will not happen often to Wisconsin. People are frustrated about this team, but to me, this isn’t an indication that they’re a bad college team. Just a combination of hot shooting plus turning the ball over 14 times doesn’t help. Ethan Happ needs to have more than six shot attempts though. That’s not going to win games.

Sticking with the them of saying something nice, Wisconsin’s freshman played well again with Brad Davison leading all Wisconsin scorers with 16 points, Kobe King and Nathan Reuvers each provided 10 points. Greg Gard might just have to play all his freshman and see what happens because the upperclassmen besides Happ and Khalil Iverson (I realize he had a goose egg, but he’s a good play amid inconsistent) are borderline useless.

Next up – Tough schedule for Wisconsin before they meet Marquette on Saturday. They have to head out to play two in Pennsylvania starting with tonight in Penn State. The Nittany Lions are off to a fast start winning their first seven of nine games plus a conference win on the road in Iowa over the weekend.
