Second Half Swoon Continues For Brewers

Zach Davies had been Brewers best pitcher in the last month. He had a chance to stop the bleeding on Friday night at Miller Park. Instead, Davies turned in one of his worst outings of the year getting rocked with 10 singles and 11 overall hits in five innings of work. It’s a good thing most eyes were on Packers’ first preseason game because this was a dreadful outing for Brewers who have now dropped five straight and out of second place for the first time since May 13 with the red hot Cardinals taking that spot. Brewers are completely lost.
I mentioned in my piece the other day about how Ryan Braun is not a vocal leader. While he did play a part in a ‘players-only’ meeting after last night’s loss. It was Matt Garza who led it. The same pitcher who gave up a lead by surrendering home runs like a BP pitcher. Brewers are one loss away from being .500 for the season. It’s incredible to watch them fall apart like this as they are now 7-17 since being 11 games over .500. Brewers are going to need to finish these next five games out on a strong note or their season may be finished.
St. Louis is a real threat. They are on a winning streak like we mentioned, but they also carry a ballsy 54+ run differential to Brewers +11. Usually, that tells the story of a good team versu an average team. Cardinals put everthing together and figured it out with their offense even if their pitching is a bit shaky at best. Brewers have absolutely nothing to be happy about at this juncture. It’s a fucking mess, and unless, they can turn this around with a 4-1 finish to this home stand, things are looking bleak.
Brewers have a massive West Coast road trip after these five which features three against Colorado and Los Angeles, two of the best teams in baseball, and with Los Angeles, the best team. San Francisco worked in there too where Milwaukee’s success has been tepid at best.
Tonight is a good way to start things with Homer Bailey on the mound. He’s a gas can of epic proportions. I know we said similar things about Bartolo Colon, but Bailey has been certified bad since returning from Tommy John. It’s do or die time for Brewers.
