Star Ratings: Giants-Packers

This is star ratings. A good way to break down which Packers played the best or the worst on Sunday. Let’s get into Green Bay’s 23-16 win versus New York.
Five Stars
Packers Offensive Line – It’s hard to give it to one guy, but Packers offensive line played great last night with sack-free football. J.C. Tretter, T.J. Lang did a great job inside while David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga did well on the outside. Green Bay kept the pocket clean for Rodgers. You can start to see these guys coming together. With a new guy in there, it’s not surprising it’s taken this unit to gel a little bit. This makes Green Bay even more scarier. Oh by the way, Corey Linsley can come back after next week.
Randall Cobb – Good to see a Randall Cobb breakout game. I’m not surprised given how Giants have struggled against slot receivers to begin the season. Cobb finished with 108 yards, nine catches and should have a touchdown (Thanks Ed!). Cobb made two really big catches with a devastating spin move to make a first down on Green Bay’s second-to-last drive then making the big catch to seal the game for the Packers. Hopefully, Cobb is okay and there’s no concussion for him.
Four Stars
Kyler Fackrell – If you wonder why Nick Perry will be playing elsewhere next season, the answer will probably lie with Kyler Fackrell. He’s becoming quite a beast for Green Bay. He’s a great third-down rusher where his only goal is sacking the quarterback. Fackrell has a real punch and added bonus with this team. Imagine an edge being set by him, Perry and Clay Matthews? Good god.
Micah Hyde – One of the better games by a Packers secondary member. Sterling Shepherd did absolutely nothing in this game. He had a straight goose egg during the game. Hyde plays a lot of the slot/tight ends, and he made damn sure Shepherd didn’t get going on Sunday night. Hyde has been quiet to begin the year so this is nice to see.
Three Stars
Aaron Rodgers – Not the best day for Aaron Rodgers, but not the worst day either. Rodgers had 250 yards with two touchdowns yet he missed some key throws along with an uncharacteristic interception. He didn’t have a great game but did just enough to win the game. I know this is going to drive Packers fans batty, but people need to realize that Green Bay’s plan today wasn’t to have Rodgers go full bore against this defense. They wanted to limit possessions which I feel isn’t common for a Packers offense.
Jordy Nelson – It’s really weird to see Jordy Nelson drop balls. He made a great touchdown catch early, but when a ball hit off his hands for an interception, Nelson appeared to be thrown off for the rest of the game. Nelson had a couple key drops in the middle of the game which makes Rodgers stat line look a little worse than it actually was on Sunday. He did come up with a few catches late which is big to see him persevere through the tough games.
Two Stars
James Starks – If Eddie Lacy is out with an ankle injury versus Dallas, Green Bay might be in a little bit of trouble. I don’t think James Starks is as good as he was in the past couple years. He’s not that great of a scat back anymore, and he seems to always take it to the outside even though it’s not always there. Starks nearly cost the Packers with his fumble very late in the game.
One Star
Special Teams – Just god awful. I will say this is what happens when there are multiple defenders out with injury yet still, it’s not a good thing to see a ‘FLAG’ every time a Packers special team unit is on the field.
Ed Hochuli – One of the worst officials in the game.
Charlie.
