Star Ratings: Packers-Bears

Packers-Bears is a great rivalry, and there have been better games to reflect that in the past five years. Green Bay currently has their number as this is their 12th win in the last 14 tries versus Bears. This came down to the wire when not many thought it was heading that way as Packers led 27-10. Thankfully, Mason Crosby is a cold weather kicker.
Five Stars
Ty Montgomery – What a game by Monty. Packers running back Ty Montgomery rushed for 162 yards on 16 carries for a 10.1 average with two touchdowns. It’s the most yardage by a running back in 13 years for Packers. Montgomery continues to be a revelation in the backfield. He’s not LeVeon Bell, but the hesitation moves remind me of what Bell does in the backfield. He’s also such a hard runner that he rarely goes down on first contact. Ted Thompson does it again.
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix – There are a few all-pros on this team, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix deserves to be one of them. He picked off two more passes today giving him four for the season which is the second-most for safeties in the league behind former Alabama teammate Landon Collins. Clinton-Dix continues to be a monster in the Green Bay defense of late. He keeps on finding ways to make plays out there. Hopefully, Dom Capers brings back more aggression next week.

Can we talk about this @aaronrodgers12 throw?
Goodness. #GoPackGo https://t.co/euguBL9537

Aaron Rodgers – Not the best day through the air, but Aaron Rodgers found a way to get it done when it matters the most. Rodgers made an MVP-play with the 60-yard bomb down the field to Jordy Nelson to set up the game-winning field goal. Rodgers is still having some mobility issues, but he keeps finding the open receiver. Things were made easier with Montgomery dominating on the ground. Rodgers finished with 252 yards with an 87 quarterback rating.
Micah Hyde – There haven’t been many games where Packers fans should be singing Micah Hyde’s praises, but he came up with two of the biggest plays of yesterday’s game. Hyde intercepted a Hail Mary attempt that was way too close for comfort, and he knocked away a third-down goal line pass forcing Chicago to take the game-tying field goal. These were key moments that helped preserve the win.
Three Stars
Jordy Nelson – If it weren’t for two huge drops earlier in this game, Nelson would be much higher on this list. But he stays at the three star level. Think of it as a movie where an actor makes a bad movie look good. That’s Nelson’s day. He came up with the biggest catch of the day when Green Bay needed it the most.
Jared Cook – One of the better first halves from the Packers tight end who was able to play after leaving Seattle game with a chest injury. Cook had 85 yards on six catches versus a very good Bears defense versus tight ends. He became the third option for this team as Randall Cobb did not show up in the stat sheet.
Two Stars
Dom Capers soft zone – Not sure why Dom Capers decided to hold off on the aggression versus Matt Barkley. Maybe it’s a road game thing? Packers seemed much more aggressive at home versus Sunday afternoon. Matt Barkley looked like the second-coming of Joe Montana in the fourth quarter. Capers needs to press and blitz more next week. We’ll see if this trend continues in Detroit for the final home game of the season.
Mike McCarthy’s decisions – Curious game from Mike McCarthy when it came to field goals. He decided against taking one from about 20 yards out with Packers up 7-3 and dominating the football game early on. Then McCarthy decides to take one right at the goal line versus backing up Bears offense. I almost think he’s flipping a coin out there.
One Star
Great team win today. Shitty performance by Davante Adams but we pulled it off..all that matters. #GoPackGo

Davante Adams – Rough day for Tae Adams as he dropped two surefire touchdowns. They were the separate plays we’ve grown to love in the last couple weeks, and Adams couldn’t bring them in. I did like Rodgers going right to Adams after his second touchdown drop for a quick curl route. Adams had a humorous tweet about it after the game.
Clay Matthews/Randall Cobb – Um, did they play? Not much from either play. Curious to know how hurt they really are.
Charlie.
