Stefanski Scares Bucks Fans & For Good Reason

When it comes to executives in sports, the good ole boys network is a thing. It’s been one for years. Granted, it was much worse back in the early 2000’s versus today. Executives would hire their friends, instead of trying to get a bright mind to their team. Milwaukee Bucks could be looking at a throwback to those days if Ed Stefanski is hired as Bucks General Manager. He’s one of the finalists, and that should terrify Bucks fans that he’s close to impacting the future of this organization.
Stefanski is getting a shot because Rod Thorn, who is leading the general manager search, is his boy. Thorn is the former New Jersey Nets executive who built that team then went to Philadelphia to work with Stefanski. That didn’t work well as Sam Hinkie had to be brought in due to the Sixers going nowhere. New Jersey, now Brooklyn, had a good first year with him running things, but questionable draft picks led to the future of this team being absolutely nothing. And that might be the biggest issue. It’s apparent he’s not a draft and develop guy which is crucial for a small town team. He likes doing deals, and that’s always risky.
Stefanski has done absolutely fucking nothing to deserve another general manager job. Thorn is the only reason he’s hanging around for this job search. It would be a crime at this point not to hire Justin Zanik or one of the other talented potential candidates who are in the final process for the job.
If Bucks go this route, they’re shitting on their fanbase yet again destroying some of the goodwill they developed last winter. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
