Stop Acting Like Brian Gutekunst is a Ted Thompson Clone

When you hear people react to the new Packers general manager, Brian Gutekunst, people are going to ignorantly call into sports radio programs and say that ‘This is a terrible move as nothing will change and the beat goes on.’ That’s such a laughable take, but many people will have this opinion. They see a guy who worked for Thompson and immediately think nothing will change from this team. That’s a bullshit way to look at this new Packers general manager.
According to the article written by Ryan Wood on the hire, executive sources expect Gutekunst to be aggressive in free agency, but that will not stop people from thinking he’s exactly like Thompson. It’s a frustrating thing to deal with Packers fans on a regular basis who want the fucking moon with every hire. If Gutekunst does bring in free agents, but they don’t work out, what will be the complaint then? “Oh I wish he did more drafting and developing of talent, why can’t he be more like Ted?” We need to let Gutekunst be his own man at the Packers general manager spot and accept what comes with it. This will probably take some time.
The obsession that people have with Ted Thompson is truly embarrassing. The guy built a Super Bowl winner, there are multiple individuals whom left Green Bay and are general managers elsewhere because of Thompson plus had the balls to execute the Aaron Rodgers draft pick then trust he would be better over Brett Favre. All of those things put Thompson among the greats in as Packers general manager. He isn’t beloved like Ron Wolf who brought this back from the dead, but he deserves to be in the same conversation. Hopefully, Gutekunst can do similar things with this roster and make them into one of the elite teams again in the National Football League.
Go Pack Go. In Brian we trust.
Charlie.
