Open Championship might be my favorite tournament of the year. The Masters is great, but in a way, it’s the same course with the same players usually being near the top. U.S. Open is fun, but the USGA cannot get out of its own way. PGA Championship is the Kendall Roy of major tournaments. The Open Championship is the premier major for anyone who truly enjoys golf. It’s unpredictable. The course can be the story, but it’s always about the golfers. And it’s anyone’s tournament usually throughout the years. It proved true again with Francesco Molinari taking home the Claret Jug and being the first Italian major winner.

Tiger Woods can compete at the major level again – That’s the most exciting thing that came out of this tournament. People will forget that Molinari won the tournament. Trust me, he’s an afterthought, and the conversation that people are having as they get their K-cup filled is Tiger Woods being back. Dude competed in a major and nearly won the fucker. If not for two bad holes, this might be a different story. Tiger can win majors again, and everyone else is in big trouble. This year is a warning shot for what might be on the way in 2019.

Summer of Spieth? – Jordan Spieth has not been a good golfer this season. Yet this weekend he turned it around and led on Sunday at a major for a time being. Yes, Spieth did not win, but he played really good golf. It could be a lauching pad for him to have a huge final kick of the season. Spieth will play the Bridgestone then have a chance to complete the career Grand Slam at the PGA and have four majors before age 25. We’ll see if this is going to be a one-time thing, or the beginning of great couple months for him.

Race for the Ryder Cup is going to be fun – Man, there are some storylines here for both sides of the table. United States sees Webb Simpson in as the final lock right now, and there are the likes of Woods, Xander Schauffele, Kevin Kisner, Tony Finau are all in the potential mix on the United States side. Also, the conversation about Phil Mickelson being in the mix even though he’s been mediocre of late. Europe’s roster looks loaded and ready for a major comeback after the struggles in 2016.

Next up: They head to Canada for the RBC Canadian Open. Last year, Jhonattan Vegas took home the crown with the likes of Charley Hoffman, Ian Poulter, Gary Woodland and Dustin Johnson breathing down his neck. Pretty solid field for thsi year’s tournament with Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Finau and Kisner.
