Three Things to Watch: Georgia State-Wisconsin

Wisconsin Badgers finished the non-conference on Saturday playing Georgia State. They are new to the bowl subdivision, and they’re not very good. Vegas has Bucky favored by 34.5 points. Georgia State has issues stopping the run, and you can see how that might be an issue for them versus a team like Wisconsin. The home team better enjoy this one because they head straight to hell starting next week and don’t get out until November.
Corey Clement shouldn’t play
There’s no reason to trot Clement out there in a meaningless football game. I’m sure Paul Chryst would like to see him return a kick or two, but that shouldn’t proceed Clement’s health. He has a bad ankle, and it’s worth taking the week off before Big Ten play. Dare Ogunbowale, Taiwan Deal and Bradrick Shaw should be able to take care of business on Saturday. Wisconsin needs everyone healthy before Big Ten play.
Air Bart
One thing we haven’t seen from Bart Houston is the ability to spread the field. I know this is a poor team, and things will be very vanilla. But I would love to see a couple of a deep balls from Houston to Jazz Peavy or Robert Wheelwright. Houston can make those throws, but we haven’t see it yet in a live game. He needs to have a couple deep balls here, or there should be real concern about Wisconsin’s inability to get down the field quickly.
Everyone stay healthy
In the first two games of the season, Wisconsin lost starting stud linebacker Chris Orr for the year and special teams savant Natrell Jamerson. Wisconsin needs to do everything and anything possible to avoid any additional injuries before Week 1 of the Big Ten season. You would hate to see a key player go down in a game like this one, but that’s football.
Prediction
Wisconsin wins this game in a major way. We saw last week how well they handled a halfway decent Akron team, and I think they do something similar on Saturday with a rousing 55-14 victory.
