What Does This Week Bring For Jason Kidd?

Milwaukee Bucks are in and out of the news since their playoff lost to Toronto Raptors. We’ve heard talk about their intentions to ink Jabari Parker to a long-term deal, and the desire to re-sign Tony Snell along with some unknown about what Greg Monroe will do with his player option. There’s another unknown in this equation… Jason Kidd. There were reports last week saying news would be out in a week or so if the Milwaukee Bucks head coach would have a job with the team next season. Well, what’s it going to be?
There are a few things that could happen here for Kidd. Let’s start with the obvious one. Kidd keeps his job, and he’s Milwaukee’s head coach for another year. If you listened to the podcast last week, we talked about how if Giannis Antetokounmpo wants the former point guard great back, he will be there. Giannis holds a lot of clout with the team even in his early years, and the last thing Milwaukee’s front office wants to do is piss of their young superstar. But there are other options for Kidd.
What if Giannis and other teammates do not really vibe with the coach? I find it hard to believe that this is a Mark Jackson situation at Golden State. During that time, Jackson’s style did not work with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. That became evident when Warriors won a championship with the free-flowing offense of Steve Kerr. Kidd’s rotations are a problem, but I don’t think he’s holding the team back like Jackson did with Warriors. Bucks are still really young, and while I’m not the biggest fan of Bucks coach, he isn’t the reason Milwaukee won only 42 games this season.
Many would think there isn’t a third option, but there is most certainly one, perhaps, the scariest one… Jason Kidd in a front office role. He’s made no bones about taking a role in the front office and leaving the coaching stuff behind a la Larry Bird did with Indiana Pacers. This is a bad idea in all shapes of the word. There hasn’t been one ‘Kidd decision’ with personnel that’s been a good one. The only thing productive Kidd did on this side of the table was getting Kevin Garnett to work with Thon Maker, Giannis and other Bucks young players.
We shall see if news breaks this week on the future of Milwaukee’s coaching staff.
