What’s Going Through Thon Maker’s Head?
Milwaukee Bucks are the best team in the NBA from a record perspective. They’re the number one seed in the Eastern Conference, and everyone is getting geared up for an incredible second half for Milwaukee. You would think that everyone on the roster would be pleased and happy with what’s going on with the team. That’s not true. Meet Thon Maker. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Maker wants to be traded because apparently, he does not like winning games and having fun.
We’re in the ‘Players are always right’ era, and people get shamed for giving players a hard time. Well, this is one of those times where you cannot defend Maker and his team wanting out of Milwaukee. It’s fucking ridiculous and selfish. Thon is not being a team player. He would rather be in Cleveland, Memphis, Chicago or somewhere losing every time but still getting minutes. Why does Maker want to screw up a good thing?
It’s clear that he hasn’t found a spot in Coach Budenholzer’s rotation, but this feels player-influenced given his comments about wanting to be traded. He is in year three of development, and things haven’t gotten better for him. Maker is still an awful defender. He cannot catch a basketball to save his soul. Maker is a 7’1 wing who is afraid of contact, not a shot blocker and really doesn’t rebound. When Budenholzer gave him minutes in the first half, the team defense decreased, and Thon didn’t really bring anything to table.
Curious to know Giannis Antetokounmpo’s thoughts about this rumor. Thon is his guy. He’s one of his best friends on the team. Giannis is extremely loyal to his core. To me, Maker wanting to leave the team and leave Giannis feels like a breaking of that loyalty. It cannot make Antetokounmpo feel good to see and hear these type of things. Bucks have a great group of beat writers, and I’ll assume someone will ask Giannis before tonight’s game with Oklahoma City about Maker.
We’ll see if Jon Horst will make a move before February 7th.
