Will Keston Hiura’s Demotion Hurt His Confidence?
When Keston Hiura got called up by the Milwaukee Brewers, the fan base went crazy. This is a guy that people have been waiting for to make to the big league roster. He is a pure hitter and dominated the minor leagues. Despite a few missteps in the majors, he didn’t miss a beat with his promotion. Hiura hit five home runs, batted .281, with an OPS+ of 121, the fourth-highest on the team. Hiura came in with a bang. Sadly, he will not be joining the Milwaukee Brewers when they return home to play the Miami Marlins tonight. Brewers announced yesterday that Travis Shaw would be taking his roster spot, and the move drew ire from Brewers fans all over the state. Hopefully, this does not ruin Hiura’s mental game.
It is hard to look at that stats, and say ‘I’m not good enough to stay up in the big leagues.’ In a way, the Brewers second baseman is going to have worked through that in the next couple of weeks. That’s a mental capacity thing where he needs to show toughness while biding his time in Triple-A San Antonio. I’m sure Milwaukee’s coaching staff gave him some things to work on whilst down there and also let him know a little bit of their plan going forward. I truly think there’s a plan in place with Hiura and the other three guys in question on this Milwaukee roster – Eric Thames, Shaw, and Jesus Aguilar. Still, Keston needs to keep his head up while he’s down and knows that this is a decision happened because of a veteran-laden roster.
Mental states are a tricky thing with young dudes. Remember when Lewis Brinson came up? We were all so excited for him and thought he would be the next great Brewers centerfielders. Nope, it didn’t happen. Brinson went 1-for-16 or something awful like that and shot his confidence with big league pitching. Brinson only played in 21 games that year with two home runs hitting .107. That being said, Hiura is a different prospect than Brinson, but there is sensitivity dealing with young guys. If you think it might not bother him, I thought Washington Wizards forward and noted Brewers fan Sam Dekker provided an interesting perspective.
definitely can hurt confidence Tom. one of those “what more do I have to do” things https://t.co/bfxHuRQx1P

Hopefully, Hiura is back in the big leagues soon enough.
