Will Packers Move On From Ha Ha Clinton-Dix?

On Saturday evening, a surprising name showed up in the list of football players that could get dealt today, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Make no mistake, we know that Ha Ha is in the last year of his deal, he’s been outspoken about ‘knowing he won’t be back here and the play from him has been inconsistent at best. If Green Bay moves on from Clinton-Dix, it will be very Belichick-like from Brian Gutekunst trying to trim the fat of his roster prior to the offseason much like New England did with Jamie Collins and Richard Seymour. Business-wise it might make sense, but from a team aspect, I’m scratching my head a bit.
Safety is Green Bay’s biggest issue on defense. It’s been a problem all season. Getting rid of Clinton-Dix would not really help it. Josh Jones, a former second round pick, can only get on the field when the team is on special teams. Other than that, Jones is not playing safety on occasion. If there’s a master plan to move Tramon Williams to free safety and bump Kentrell Brice to strong safety, that might make a sense to have a move in place for Ha Ha. The other, more fucked up reason why this could happen is Green Bay could be swapping out Landon Collins for Clinton-Dix. The Pro Bowl strong safety is on the block and a much better Alabama product. It would be cruel but entirely possible.
If he does get traded mid-season, I hope it’s to the AFC. Checking Twitter this morning, there are a lot of Eagles fans that want Clinton-Dix in an Eagles uniform by the end of the day. Kansas City is another team that has fans clamoring for a safety. These deals aren’t easy and will take some time to get done. We’ll see if the Packers make any moves on Tuesday afternoon.
