Yankees-Tigers Brawl Was Old School Baseball & I Loved It

There’s nothing like checking your phone and Twitter account after a meeting to see two baseball teams got into a fight. A real fight. Not a couple shoves, and we’re done. But one where actual punches were thrown, and people were heading to the ground plus cheap shots then another instance where a fight broke out again. Kudos to you, Yankees-Tigers for bringing back fighting in baseball even if it was for an afternoon in August. That was a great fight that the Internet is still talking about this morning.

This was incredible. Sure, we can get to the whole Delin Betances shouldn’t have thrown at James McCann’s dome, but let’s first appreciate how good this was from each team. I get these pitches hurt and can hurt someone yet a baseball fight like this is like a solar eclipse especially in today’s baseball. Back in the 70’s and 80’s, you would see this shit on a frequent basis. Today, it’s a very rare. The last fight that came close to this one was the Diamondbacks and Dodgers a few years back where everyone was fighting. Still, I feel like Yankees-Tigers hold the crown here.
The interesting subplot of this whole thing is the fact Yankees are fighting for a Wild Card spot. They are currently 3.5 games up, but they do not have an easy road in the next 10 days with Seattle, Cleveland and Boston all coming to town. Gary Sanchez is their hottest hitter right now, and he’ll be suspended for multiple games. Betances will get a lion share as well. You wonder if Yankees will even appeal because if they do, it delays the suspension which could mean these players would sit out games in September.
Brawls are still the goddamn best and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
Charlie.
