Green Bay Should Pay Aaron Rodgers Whatever He Wants

This headline might be redundant but it’s true. Aaron Rodgers deserves as big of a paycheck as he wants from the Green Bay Packers. If the star quarterback would like to go the Tom Brady route and save some money in order to sign free agents, that’s awesome. If Rodgers wants the largest deal in the National Football League with most of the money being guaranteed, that’s totally fine too. At the end of the day, 31 teams would be knocking down Rodgers’ door if he somehow was a free agency, so, no price for him is an overpay.
The common man fan can get behind the idea of Green Bay’s quarterback taking a Brady-like salary. There will be much consternation from the sports radio call-ins fans who think Rodgers now makes too much money. We should not expect Rodgers to take less money to help the team. Remember, Brady doesn’t have to make money considering his wife pulls in an absurd amount herself. Rodgers doesn’t have that luxury. Even if he were to marry girlfriend Danica Patrick, she isn’t making Gisle money racing cars. It would be stunning to see the two-time MVP take less than money for the good of the team.
I trust that the likes of Brian Gutekunst, Mark Murphy and Russ Ball are more than prepared for this Rodgers’ contract. They know the kind of numbers the team has in mind for him, and what they would like him to sign for. I also think they do have a price point where they might say that’s too much. While this contradicts the headline, there has to be a point where it could actually damage the team moving forward and would Rodgers want to risk that? Regardless of what number they land on, Green Bay will have to get creative with contracts moving forward
If I had to guess about when the extension might get done, it’s either prior to free agency or it’s in July before the season gets underway. Those are two logical windows for this kind of move to happen. Excited for the team to get it done and hope the dollar figure will not be too bad.
