Brent Suter’s Injury Goes Beyond the Mound

Brent Suter left Sunday’s game with an arm injury. People did not know the severity of the injury since he had some forearm issues earlier this month. Sadly, the news came out that Suter tore his UCL, and he’ll be out for the season needing Tommy John surgery. Brewers are down another pitcher, and the injuries are continuing to pile up for the team. Suter is a big blow. He is one of the most important people in the clubhouse. People love him as he’s sort of the nerdy, young gun in the clubhouse, and he brings such a lively energy to the team. Hopefully, Suter can still be a cheerleader for the team.
Even though Suter’s underlying numbers show a pitcher the struggled, he had a productive season with the Brewers. He went 10-4 with a respectable earned run average. He came into the season with no real expectations on what his role might be for the team this season. And he fought through that to be a productive pitcher on the mound with limited stuff. It’s a bummer to see him not be able to finish out the season with the team.
Brewers starting rotation figures itself now, though. The team will still have a six-man rotation with Jhouyls Chacin, Chase Anderson, Zach Davies, Freddy Peralta, Junior Guerra and Wade Miley. That’s not a fearsome rotation by any means when it comes to the postseason. And there’s still some legitimate concerns with Davies. He seems ready to come back very soon, yet, I wonder if he would be better out of the bullpen. He doesn’t have ‘bullpen stuff’ but you never know> Davies is the weak link at the moment out of those six pitchers.
Hopefully, we will get to see Suter in 2019.
Charlie.
