The Brewers’ asses were in the jackpot. They flew home from Los Angeles on a red eye after a tough 16-run defeat, and they didn’t get to bed until 7:30 am on Friday morning. The expectation would be that they might be a little weak and the lack of sleep may affect them. While the Brewers did seem a little sluggish at the plate, they did just enough to keep themselves in the ball game and ultimately win 5-3 on a walkoff from Eric Thames. Who needs sleep?

Player of the Game: Junior Guerra- What a performance by Guerra. He went eight innings, struck out six batters, walked three and gave up three runs really due to one mistake to Carlos Gonzalez. Guerra was terrific tonight and gave Milwaukee a much-needed boost. Granted, the bullpen could have been available but with the lack of sleep, it was nice to give some of the top arms a break. Hopefully, this is a great turn to the finish line for Guerra.

Silver Star: Eric Thames – What a spot for Thames in the ninth inning. Brewers put two runners on due to walks from Wade Davis. After Jonathan Schoop had a tough at-bat that resulted in a pop-up, Thames stood at the plate just needing a single to tie it. He obviously did more by launching a dinger for the win. Thames doesn’t seem to be affected by hitting seventh in the lineup. More so, the commentary is they want to strike fear in everyone’s eyes.

Honorable Mention: Christian Yelich – Once again, DJ Yella doing the damn thing with one big hit for a home run, and two runs scored in this game. It dawned on me today that Yelich could realistically hit 30 home runs this season. He’s at 17 meaning 13 away from 30, and it’s not out of the question. 25 might be a good starting point and see where it goes from there.

Next up: Brewers face another lefty as Tyler Anderson goes for the Rockies. Anderson has been good this season, but he struggled versus St. Louis. Expect to see a similar lineup to Wednesday with Shaw and Thames out with Braun in, Arica in. Brewers send Freddy Peralta on the hill. Peralta dazzled the Rockies the first time he faced him, so, I wonder if there will be a big book on him from Colorado specifically. That could be the case on Saturday.
