Green Bay Must Put A Waiver Claim on Christine Michael

Every time a notable player makes the NFL waiver wire, Green Bay Packers fans immediately think there’s a roster spot. Most of the time it’s an overreaction. This isn’t the case with Christine Michael. Seattle Seahawks released Michael as Thomas Rawls is healthy and they think C.J. Prosise fits their offense more than Michael. Green Bay are in need of a power runner that fits the Eddie Lacy mode. Michael could really help the team. Will Ted Thompson buck the trend of his own ways and go after a big waiver fish?
Here’s the worry – Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings both need running backs in the worst way. Both teams are contending for a playoff spot in Green Bay’s division, and if Green Bay chooses to pass on Michael, it’s almost a guarantee one of those two teams will put a claim in. Green Bay sits at 14th in the waiver wire, and there are only 13 teams who could have the right to sign Michael before them. There isn’t one that screams ‘running back need’ ahead of Packers. Granted if a bottom-feeder decides he fits then the point is moot.
Thompson cannot let Detroit or Minnesota take Michael from Green Bay. He’s not a savior, but the former Seahawk would provide a good goal line back for the team plus they could use the help. James Starks isn’t the same back he was a couple years ago. Unless Thompson knows Eddie Lacy will be back in four weeks to play Seattle, there’s no reason a waiver claim shouldn’t be made on Michael.
