LaFleur-Shanahan Appear To Have Real Beef
As the week went on, the Green Bay Packers media started to ask Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur about the offseason and if he had beef with Kyle Shanahan, his friend, after what happened with the San Francisco 49ers and Aaron Rodgers. Before Week 3, Ian Rapaport reported that San Francisco was Rodgers’ preferred destination which is not a surprise given the quarterback’s hometown plus how well Rodgers succeeded with LaFleur. The Packers’ coach said there was ‘no ill will.’ After the game ended, both coaches did a very chilly blow-by. From what we’ve seen, these guys’ relationships might be fractured.

Maybe these guys will make peace in the coming years, but as of now, it's on bad terms. That has to be awkward for their friends in the industry. Shanahan employed Robert Salah, but the Jets head coach is LaFleur's best friend plus he employs Matt's younger brother. Who knows where Sean McVay stands on this or Zac Taylor. I realize none of these coaches give a shit and only worry about their own team. But it is always awkward when your friends are beefing, no matter how serious your job is.
This only makes the Packers-San Francisco rivalry better. Last week, I talked about this on the Tapping The Keg podcast with Mitch Ross. This is the rivalry for the Packers right now. Sure, the fans will have Bears-Packers which isn't real right now. Vikings-Packers can be spicy but Green Bay has dominated for the last few years. Listen to it here if you haven't.
