New MKE Restaurant Pays Homage to American Psycho… Uh.

Brady Street will be getting a new restaurant in 2017. It’s an Italian place replacing the old Mimma’s which is right next to everyone’s favorite hookup spot, Jo-Cats. What’s odd about this new place is it’s called Dorsia which pays tribute to American Psycho, a cult movie about Wall Street serial killer, as the restaurant the lead actor couldn’t get a reservation for. The new owner explains this to OnMilwaukee...
Cataldo says the restaurant is likely to be called Dorsia. It’s a name he admits is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the movie “American Psycho,” in which protagonist Patrick Bateman was plagued by his inability to get reservation at the fictional restaurant of the same name.
“I get a kick out of quirky,” says Cataldo. “But I also see it as a tribute. In the ’90s, Mimma’s was a hard place to get into. You had to wait four hours for a dish of pasta. It was a popular place. So it makes sense.”
Okay, this is one of the dumber things I’ve seen in Milwaukee in quite some time. One, it’s a Italian restaurant replacing an Italian restaurant. Why would one succeed while the other one fails? Secondly, the name is way too cute. Do I think it’s a little weird to honoring a movie where the lead character kills almost everyone he sees? Um yeah. Further, this isn’t a movie that everyone sees and knows. Sure, they might get the picture of Christian Bale holding an ax in a swanky New York apartment, but most will just think it’s a family name or something to that affect. Unless, there are Bale pictures all over the restaurant.
I always wish things the best of luck, but I’m giving it under a year before the name changes to something people can reason with more. There’s a lot of competition on Brady and some name from a decently well-known movie will not put asses in the seats.
