Social media can be powerful if used the right way. It is the devil too much like everything that Bobby Boucher’s mama dealt with in The Waterboy. We saw the good side of social media on Monday. After the Big Ten players led by Justin Fields of Ohio State started the #WeWantToPlay hashtag, it evolved into #WeWanttoCoach and most of the premier Big Ten coaches let their voices be heard. Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day, James Franklin, and Scott Frost all were very vocal yesterday, and it seemed to work. Big Ten will meet this morning, and we’ll see if they cave in to the pressure that is building in their conference. A coup has begun, will it continue if they render a cancellation?

Nebraska is threatening to leave the conference if football doesn’t happen. I’m not sure the ramifications on how they could with no schools playing non-conference games. The easy fit would be the Big 12 where Nebraska played for years, but could the conference support that for a season? Harbaugh, Day, and Franklin yield big sticks in and outside of the Big Ten. Their voices mean a lot to the fans of Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Those are three of the biggest football programs in the Big Ten. And from what you read, all the coaches are fighting like hell right now.

Big Ten trying to play in early September was the first mistake. All of the sudden, they realized they’re a month away from real football, and it didn’t feel right. I questioned the schedule last week. Wondering why they didn’t space out games more and try to make sure they built room for if something happened. My prediction is the Big Ten will delay their start of the regular season and push back the schedule for two or three weeks. There will be some layer of unified testing, and it would not shock me if they make players sign a COVID wavier.

Good for all of the coaches and players making sure the Big Ten season didn’t die. Again for the thousandth fucking time, you’re not going to get rid of the virus, but life is now about how you manage it.
