BrewCap: Christian Yelich’s Wet Hot American Summer

Milwaukee Brewers headed west to play San Francisco and Los Angeles for eight games. Whenever you head out on a decently long road trip, it’s always important to get the first game under your belt. Brewers did just that with a 7-5 victory as Christian Yelich remains on complete fire and carried the team to their fourth win in their last six games. Brewers played really refreshing baseball tonight.
Player of the Game: Christian Yelich – How many times are we going to praise DJ Yella?! I know I said Matt Kemp is the player of the month, but it might belong to Yelich. He’s been on complete fire and continued it tonight with a home run, two doubles and a couple runs scored. Yelich is on a complete heater, and yes, he’s an MVP candidate.
Silver Star: Travis Shaw – This is a great game for Shaw. He’s a guy who can sometimes play small in a big ballpark as it limits his power, but you saw a great game from The Mayor. He had two hits. One that set up the go-ahead run at the time, and the other was a home run in the ninth that the team needed after the Giants mounted another comeback. Hopefully, this can continue for Shaw.
Honorable Mention: Erik Kratz – The big man came up with a big base hit to keep the eighth inning churning for the Brewers. He continues to be solid for Milwaukee of late. Kratz had two singles in this one with one driving in a run. My guess is the team will have a day on, day off for him and Manny Pina who are pretty similar at this time.

Brewers-Giants get set for Game 2 which will pair Madison Bumgarner versus Chase Anderson. We know the issues with Chase. It’s the first inning. If he gets past that, it’s usually a Gucci start. Hope that the big ballpark can help him out. MadBum hasn’t been the same this year, but he’s a beast to deal with for a full nine. Brewers will have their hands full.
