Milwaukee Brewers started their 10-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs yesterday. This is a weirdly big 10 games for the Brewers. If Milwaukee finds a way to go .500, they’re looking okay for a playoff berth. If the wheels fall off, then, it is probably time to think about being sellers at the trade deadline. It did not get off to a solid start with another bad loss as they nearly got no-hit by Yu Darvish as Brewers lose to Cubs, 4-2. Thankfully, they did not get ho-hit, but it is another embarrassing night for the offense.

Player of the Game: Yu Darvish – This kind of sucks, man. Darvish is one of my favorite players to shit on, and when he kicks your teeth in, there is not much to say. Darvish went seven innings strong with eleven strikeouts, one hit allowed and two walks. The funniest part of this is the fact the Brewers set up an offense to beat Darvish and didn’t work at all. Not ideal

Honorable Mention: Justin Smoak – Shoutout to the Smoak monster for making sure the Brewers didn’t get no-hit. He hit a home run to break things up then added a double in the ninth to score an additional run. Smoak has three multi-hit games in the last five games. He is showing signs of turning around, and that might be one of the bright side things with this team.

One thing to talk about – Why does Andy Haines have a job?: With a 60-game season and COVID-19, I do not think there are many coaches that are going to lose their job. But Andy Haines, Brewers hitting coach, should probably exit stage left. I don’t know what we’re doing here. I realize this team is full of boom/bust guys and when that happens, you have some busts. But the approach sucks at the plate. It makes zero sense.

Next up: Brewers and Cubs get ready for game two tonight. Adrian Houser takes the hill, and he has been solid to start the season. Houser had a bad start in Wrigley last year, so, let’s hope history doesn’t repeat himself. Brewers will be introduced to Alec Mills who is apparently another version of Kyle Hendricks, so, that should work out swell.
