Milwaukee Brewers won two straight over the weekend before heading into a short road trip to New York City. They were relatively hot with 15 runs in the last two games, and the pitching staff looked tough as nails with Chase Anderson and Jimmy Nelson both pitching great. Yet this did not last against New York Mets. Brewers were only able to muster a few hits and couple runs as New York takes Game 1 of the series, and their sixth straight at Citi Field versus Crew.

Player of the Game: Domingo Santana (Brewers) – It appears Domingo Santana is the hottest Brewer right now with a bat. He’s rolling right now with his second straight game with a home run. It was an impressive blast from Santana who golfed a low curveball out of the stadium. He added another hit in a failed ninth inning rally.

(Not) Player of the Game: Eric Thames (Brewers) – It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Eric Thames. He’s 0 for his last 19, and 1 for his last 25 at-bats. He’s colder than a polar bear toe nails. It’s clear to me he’s doing two things right now – Trying to pull the ball and pressing to make the big hit. Thames needs to relax and just play baseball. Brewers aren’t helping though. The lack of regard for a bench makes things much harder on him to get days off.

Player of the Game: Robert Gsellman (Mets) – New York’s young pitcher made a case as to why he could still be a starter for this team. Gsellman has been pretty bad to begin the year, and he dazzled against Milwaukee going seven innings striking out five batters with walking only two. Gsellman worked his two-seam fastball all afternoon.

Positive: *Shrug* – We got nothing from this game. Brewers once again put up a shit performance. At least for their sake, Cubs and Cardinals both lost in this one.

Negative: Matt Garza’s third time through the order struggles continue – Matt Garza came back down to the earth in the past couple games, but the real issue here is the fact he can’t get through the order the third time through is fucking ridiculous. Opposing hitters are hitting over .400 third time through the order. Why doesn’t Craig Counsell care about this stat? Least you could do here is have the bullpen prepped and his leash be very short.

Next up: Brewers and Mets will meet for Game 2 of the series with Zach Davies heading to the hill for Milwaukee. Davies has decent for the team, but they need a little more. Maybe Davies can come through in this one. Tyler Pill goes for the first time in his career for Mets.
